The word #angkring or nangkring is Javanese means sit relax. The concept of angkringan is the barrow, cover with plastic tarpaulin. The other characteristics of angkringan begins from afternoon until midnight or early morning (subuh)
If we talking about the price of each food at angkringan is varies. Angkringan is also known as an egalitarian place. Everybody who buy at angkringan can comes from various levels. They are pedicab driver, brick lawyers, employees, college students, and artist talking relax each other. The cheap price and the relax place makes angkringan is very popular as a lay over place to oust the hungry and take a rest.
The History of Angkringan
Angkringan is the shape of a struggle to face poverty. It means that in the shortage condition and with the minimum investment but still struggle to found the business and fulfill the daily need.
The term of angkringan is identic with Yogyakarta. On 1950, angkrngan was born at this city.
The famous of angkringan di Indonesia cannot be separated with the name of Mbah Pairo. Mbah Pairo came from Cawas, Klaten, Central Java. Because of his economic condition at that time he decided to speculate to Yogyakarta.The condition of Cawas that barren especially on dry season. There was no fertile land
Finally, by using carrying pole as his equipment he sold the rice that known until now as Sego Kucing. He didn’t sell the rice using the barrow likes now. From here, the history of Nasi Kucing stall began- The Angkirngan Yogyakarta.
At that time, Mbah Pairo sold the rice on the corner of the north side of Stasiun Tugu Yogyakarta. At that time was known as Ting-ting Hik (read : hek). The term hik is a typical shouts “Hiiik…iyeek” of him when he sold his load on shoulder.As time goes by the term hik (Hidangan Istimewa Kampung) appeared. The term hik is known at Solo until now. It is different with Yogyakarta and Semarang. At Yogyakarta called angkringan and at Semarang called kucingan. The angkringan business belonged to Mbah Pairo was inherited by Lik Man the Mbah Pairo’s son on 1969. #LikMan now, sells angkringan on the north of Stasiun Tugu.

Menu at Angkringan
The special menu at Angkringan, the stall that usually called as a poor stall is Nasi Kucing (Javanese called Sego kucing). The complement menu there likes tempe sambal kering, fried teri, quail eggs satay, gut satay, claw satay and milk fish as additional menu. You can enjoy the drink menu like hot ginger, ginger milk, hot tea, hot coffee, orange water etc.
